1. Just Be
False lessons taught to me: (gonna re-write into positive new thoughts)
- "The world is a dangerous place for me because I'm a woman walking by myself at night"
- Becomes: The world is a place for me
- I should hate myself and my skin color because it is the cause of historical systematic issues
- Becomes: I love myself unconditionally
- I will always be poor / I will never have enough
- Becomes: I will always have more than enough and be happy about it
- I don't deserve a home
- Becomes: I deserve a home.
- I don't deserve to make enough money as an artist
- Becomes: I deserve to make enough money as an artist
- I don't deserve to have consistency in my life as an artist
- Becomes: I deserve to have consistency in my life as an artist
- I don't deserve
- Becomes: I deserve
-
Homosexuality is a sin and if you love someone of the same sex you will be unloved, unloveable, and burn in the fiery pits of Mordor.
- Becomes: Love is love is love and I am loveable and loved, ALWAYS.
-
Relationships are complicated and easy love or romantic happiness or a happy marriage is not possible
- Becomes: Romantic happiness IS possible.
- Work-life balance is not possible
- Becomes: Work-life balance IS possible
What are some false lessons taught to you growing up? Feel free to leave in the comments <3
2. What If Straight People Had To Come Out To Their Parents?
Unsuspecting Mother: Hey honey, I was just wondering if you ---
She sees her daughter and her 'study buddy' leap a part from each other and fling each other 5 feet in other opposite direction and immediately grab the closest object and compose themselves into 'study pose mode'.
Unsuspecting Mother: Wanted biscuits?
Daughter looks at mom. Study buddy looks at Mom. Mom looks at Study buddy. Daughter looks at Study buddy. Study buddy looks at mom.
Daughter: YEAHMOMTHAT'DBEGREATYEAHTHINGSIAPPRECIATEITTHANKSSOMUCHLOVEYOUOKAYBYE
Mom is immediately pushed and shoved behind a closed door. Mom stops. Pauses. Thinks. Re-thinks. "No, I'm sure they just" "Yeah" Remembers that she is now newly employed to be the world's greatest biscuit maker and runs down the stairs to pre-heat the oven.
3. I Don't Know Why I'm Doing This
I am bi-sexual. I like da men and da women.
I don't know why you deserve to know that. I'm gonna say this isn't about that. I'm gonna say that I need you to know that because I don't want to be part of any more relationships that I have to hide. I'm not gonna help you protect your homophobic mother from her own daughter. I'm not going to anymore Easter church Sundays where I have to watch someone with a cardboard sign that says "I was a lesbian" on one side and "Now I am saved, happily married, and with children" on the other. Because I deserve to be loved and to feel loveable. I don't need to be ashamed of my self.
So. Merry flippin' Crisis, everyone. Happy Pride! May the first be with you. And also with you.
4. And The People Stayed Home
A Poem by Kitty O'Meara
"And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently.
And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.
And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed."
